The 8 Days Uganda Primate Safari is an awe inspiring package that offers breathtaking views of Uganda’s Countryside, various bird species like regal sunbird, grey crowned crane, marabou stork, Unique wildlife species like the tree climbing lions, African elephants, Cape buffaloes, Nile crocodiles, Spotted hyenas and also primates like the black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, red tailed monkeys, red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys among other species all in Uganda’s renown Safari destinations like Lake Mburo National park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and also Kibale National park .

Lake Mburo National Park is located in the Southern part of Uganda in Kiruhura district. The park is known for its large herds of zebras, Impalas, Elands, Topis, and buffaloes among other species. The park is home to over 68 mammal species like zebras, elands, impalas, buffalos, Defassa waterbuck, oribis, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reedbuck. Lake Mburo National Park is also home to about 350 bird species like mosque swallow, black bellied bustard, bare-faced-go away bird, Ruppell’s starling, African wattled lapwing, pied kingfisher, Malachite kingfisher, Saddle-billed stork, Red-faced barbet, Yellow-breasted apalis among other bird species.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park which is one of Uganda’s oldest rainforests with more than 25000 years of age. The park is home to almost half of the World’s population of Mountain Gorillas which gives a great opportunity for Gorilla Trekking and Habituation in the park’s sectors like Nkuringo, Buhoma, Ruhija and Rushaga. The park harbors 120 mammal species like Elephants, duikers,  yellow-backed duiker,  buffaloes, golden cats, bush pigs, giant forest hogs, black-fronted Duiker, clawless otter, side-striped jackal, civet, numerous bats, rodents and 350 bird species like handsome francolin, purple sunbird, red headed blue bill, African blue cuckoo, regal sunbird, breasted sunbird, Rwenzori turaco, Shelley’s crimson among other bird species.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for having the Tree Climbing Lions at Ishasha sector of the park,     these lions are not found in any other National park in Uganda thus being “The Medley of Wonders”, the park is home to 95 mammal species including the 4 members of the Big 5 which are Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards and also Uganda kobs, bush bucks, oribis, bush pigs, forest hogs, hippos, sitatungas and over 600 Bird species like the African skimmer, rare saddle billed stork, grey headed kingfisher, African mourning dove, African crowned eagle, Nubian woodpecker, swamp flycatcher, grey capped warbler, little bee eater among other bird species.

Kibale National Park is located in Western Uganda in Kabarole district and it was established in 1993, the park is known for being “The primate capital of the World” having various Chimpanzees with a population of over 1500 individuals including habituated ones which are about 120 making it the park with the highest primate population. Among the primates include the black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, grey cheeked mangabeys, L’Hoest’s monkey, olive baboons, Mantled guereza, Potto, Vervet monkey, White-eyelid mangabey, Galago among others. The park is also home to about 120 mammal species including African golden cats, bush pigs, warthogs, blue and red duiker, rare sitatunga, forest hogs, African elephant, forest cape buffaloes, among others and also more than 300 species of birds including olive long tailed cuckoo, western tinker bird, grey parrot, blue breasted king fisher, blue headed sunbird, red faced woodland, yellow spotted nicator, little greenbul among other bird species.

 

Day 1: Pick up from Entebbe International Airport or your Hotel – Drive to Lake Mburo National Park – Evening to Night Game drive

Day 1 of your 8 Days Uganda Safari Primates will start with a pick up from Entebbe International Airport or your Hotel. Our professional driver guide from Paradise Adventure Vacations will meet and greet you, brief you about the 8 Days Uganda Primate Safari and thereafter start the 4 hours drive to Lake Mburo National Park where you will have your lunch. You will spend your afternoon relaxing at the lodge as you await an evening to night game drive with an armed park ranger and spotlight torches to help you see nocturnals in the night like hyenas, hares, porcupine, honey badgers, white tailed mongoose, jackals, serval cats, bush pigs, civets, galagos, leopards and also hippos while grazing on short grass.

Day 2: Nature walk or Horse riding – Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park  

Upon waking up on your day 2 of the 8 Days Uganda Safari Primates, you will have an early morning heavy breakfast and then you will proceed for a Nature walk or horse riding within the park which will take about 2 to 3 hours, this experience in Lake Mburo national park will take you off the main paths and you will go deep into the bush trails to enjoy the park and see herds of zebras, giraffes, Elands, impalas, buffalos, Defassa waterbuck, oribis, leopard, hippo, hyena, topis and reedbuck among others.  After this unique experience, you will drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is a 6 to 7 hours’ drive from Lake Mburo National Park. The drive will take you through the rolling hills and lush green countryside of southwestern Uganda. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the South Western region of Uganda in Kanungu district and it is known for offering the best Gorilla experience. Enroute to your destination you will have a lunch stopover in Kabale town and then proceed to the park for dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Gorilla Trekking – Batwa Community Encounter

Upon waking up by the beautiful sounds of the birds singing in the sky, you will start your day 3 of the 8 Days Uganda Safari Primates with an early morning breakfast. Wear appropriate clothing for the day like a long sleeved shirt, a pair of karky or jean trousers, a round cap, water proof boots to protect you against the falling tree branches of the Impenetrable forest and also in case of bad weather,  Pack some snacks and water to help in keeping you hydrated during the trek. Proceed to the park’s headquarters for a briefing on the Do’s and the Don’ts while you are with the mountain gorillas, you will also be assigned a park ranger who will guide you during the trek and also a gorilla family to look out for and then start the search for the mountain gorillas which will take about 1 to 5 hours depending on their location. During your trek, you will encounter various primate species like the black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, grey mangabeys, and blue monkeys and also bird species like handsome francolin, red headed blue bill, regal sunbird, breasted sunbird, African blue cuckoo, Rwenzori turaco, Shelley’s crimson, purple sunbird among other bird species. On finding the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend only one hour with them as you learn about their ways of life, how they feed and take care of their young ones, how they communicate among others. Feel free to ask as many questions as possible about these gorillas and take memorable pictures and then you will return back to your accommodation for lunch.

Later you will visit the Batwa community who were the early inhabitants of the ancient Impenetrable forest before it became a National park and also a UNESCO World heritage site in 1992 and learn about their social ways of life, how they hunt for food in their ancient ways, visit a Batwa homestead to watch how they dance and also hear ancient legends and their folk songs and then you will return back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Launch Cruise along the Kazinga channel – Evening Game drive

Day 4 of your 8 Days Uganda Safari Primates will start with a heavy delicious breakfast and thereafter you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park which is about 5 hours drive from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Upon reaching, you will check into your accommodation for a hearty lunch and then later in the afternoon you will proceed for a rejuvenating boat cruise on the Kazinga channel which will give you stunning views of the park  and an opportunity to view the herds of hippos in water, elephants swimming and drinking water, Nile crocodiles resting at the banks of the Kazinga channel, and for the bird lovers, also be on the lookout for various bird species like the African fish eagle, the yellow billed stork, rare saddle billed stork, grey headed kingfisher, the African skimmer ,Nubian woodpecker, swamp flycatcher, grey capped warbler, little bee eater, Swamp Nightjar among others. Relax for about 5 to 10 minutes with some refreshments and then proceed for an evening game drive, you will be amazed by the beautiful evening sunset at Queen Elizabeth National Park, also be on the lookout for mammals like elephants, topis, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, hippos, lions and if lucky, you may as well spot the leopards. After that, you will return back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park – Early Morning Game drive OR Optional Experiential Lion and Leopard Tracking – Evening Crater Lake Exploration

Start your Day 5 of your 8 Days Uganda Safari Primates with an early morning breakfast and thereafter you will head out to the jungle to search for the various mammal species that inhabit Queen Elizabeth National Park like Antelopes, Hippos, bush pigs, sitatungas, topis, bushbucks, cape buffaloes, elephants among others.

OR You can Opt for an Experiential Lion and Leopard Tracking Experience in the Northern sector of the park “Kasenyi plains” which goes for an Extra $250 per person, while here, you will have an opportunity to drive off track while tracing a pride of lions and the leopards of the park. This Experience takes you beyond the usual game drive  since you get to learn about their population, behavior, life style and also any other information concerning them. Experiential Lion and Leopard Tracking is done with Researchers who drive around the Park with Radiation trackers which help them to find lions that have radio collars around their Neck, Trackers here can drive off truck in order to find the predators whenever the signals would be directing. After this experience, you will return to your lodge for a mouth-watering lunch and spend your afternoon at leisure.

Later, you will proceed for an evening Crater Lake exploration at Lake Katwe Explosion craters which is a 27km drive through the craters in Queen Elizabeth National Park, on your way you will spot some animals like the lonely male buffaloes and elephants, water bucks, Uganda kobs, sitatunga antelopes, chimpanzees and also flamingos at Lake Munyanyange, termites, snakes among others. Upon reaching, you will see the number one salt distributor in Uganda and learn how salt is extracted, you will also see the Western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley and escarpments during the drive and then return back for dinner and an overnight.

Day 6: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park – Bigodi Wetland and Community visit

After your heavy morning breakfast on day 6 of your 8 Days Uganda Safari Primates, you will drive to Kibale National park which is located about 3 hours away from Queen Elizabeth National Park, this drive will offer you magnificent scenic views of Uganda’s landscape as you drive through the lush forest of the park.  You will then check into your accommodation for lunch and later In the evening you will then proceed to the park’s Bigodi wetland for a swamp walk and during this walk you will spot some butterfly species and birds like the Black-crowned Waxbill, White-spotted Fluff tail, White-breasted Negrofinch, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Black Bishop, Hairy-breasted Barbet, Yellow-billed Barbet, Brown-crowned Tchagra, Black & white Shrike-flycatcher, Western Nicator, Superb Sunbird, among others. You will then proceed for a community walk where you will taste the Gins brewed from bananas, craft making, coffee processing, and then you will return back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight.

Day 7: Kibale National Park – Chimpanzee Tracking – Evening relaxation at the Lodge

Wake up early in the morning and start your Day 7 of the 8 Days Uganda Safari Primates with a heavy delicious breakfast and prepare for the famous Chimpanzee Trekking experience. Wear appropriate clothing for the activity like a long sleeved shirt, a pair of karky or jean trousers, water proof boots, a round cap and a heavy sweater to protect you from the tree branches and also in case of bad weather.  Carry in your back packs some snacks and drinking water to help in keeping you hydrated during the trek since it may take about 1 to 5 hours to find these Chimpanzees depending on their location. Proceed to Kanyachu visitor center where you will be briefed about the Do’s and the Don’t’s of the park, you will be assigned a chimpanzee group to look out for and also a park ranger to help you during the trek. During the trek, you will encounter various primates like the black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, Olive baboons, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Red colobuses, Mantled guereza and also various bird species like flycatchers, hornbills, black billed turaco, kingfisher, cuckoos, purple breasted sunbird, crowned eagle, black capped waxbill, and black collard apalis among others. On finding the chimpanzees, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour with them to learn about their behaviors, social life, how they communicate among others. You will then return back to your accommodation for lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sounds of the birds in Kibale.

Day 8: Drive back to Entebbe International Airport or your Hotel 

You will wake up on the final day of your 8 Days Uganda Primate Safari and then you will proceed for about 6 hours’ drive to Entebbe International Airport or your Hotel, you will have scenic views of the rolling hills in Uganda’s country side giving you lasting breathtaking moments and then you will proceed with the journey to Kampala where you will have your delicious lunch.
