The 9 Days Tanzania Safari & Day Hike on Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau allows you to experience the highlights of the Northern Safari Circuit. On safari, you will experience a variety of wildlife and landscapes including prides of lions, elephants and the lost world of the Ngorongoro Crater. After the safari, you will visit West Kilimanjaro region where you will explore Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau on a spectacular 1 day hike.
Safari destinations
Tarangire National Park
Located in the Northern part of Tanzania and lies within the Northern Circuit which consists of several other National Parks. The park covers an approximate area of 2,850sqkm and was garzetted as a National park in 1970. Tarangire National Park boosts of about 58 mammal species including large herds of elephants, giraffes, tree climbing pythons, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, gazelles, cheetahs, honey badgers, fringe eared oryx kudus, hartebeests, African wild dogs, zebras, tree climbing lions, cape buffaloes, wildebeests, waterbucks, dik-dik, impala among others. The park also has a strong concentration of bird species amounting to 550 species, among these include the greater and lesser Kudus as well as oryx, northern pied babbler, vulturine guineafowl, Rufous-tailed weaver, yellow-collard sun bird, white-bellied go away bird, hornbills, bee-eaters, ashy starling, mouse birds, tiny-pygmy falcon, white pelicans, superb sterlings, white-headed babbler, hammerkops among other bird species.
Serengeti National Park
Located in the Northern region of Tanzania and it was established in 1952. The park covers an area of 14763sqkm making it home to over 70 mammal species like dik-dik, Oryx, greater Kudu, Hyenas, Hippos, bushbuck, Jackals, giraffes, Janet cats, Baboons, Giraffes, elands, spring hare, porcupine, warthog, Hyraxes, vervet monkeys, Colobus monkeys, patas monkeys, and mongooses and also Africa’s Big 5 mammals which are lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants and Rhinos. Serengeti National park also boosts of over 500 bird species including Grey-Breasted spur fowl, Fischer’s lovebird, Rufous-tailed weaver, Usambiro barbet, Grey-crested helmet-shrike, Kori Bustard, Red-capped robin-chat, Secretary bird, Verreaux’s eagle, Yellow-throated sand grouse among others. Serengeti National Park is well known for its annual Wildebeest Migration of over 1,500,000 and 250,000 Zebras which occur between the months of July and August.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Located in the Northern part of Tanzania on the Eastern Great Rift Valley Arm which is managed by Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority. The Conservation area was officially established in 1959 and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 and it is part of the Serengeti Ecosystem. Ngorongoro’s main attraction is the Ngorongoro Crater which is the World’s largest intact and unfilled Volcanic Caldera with over 25,000 mammals including wildebeests, hippos, warthogs, hyenas, zebras, elands, gazelles, and the Big 5 mammal species which are lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos as well as buffaloes and over 100 bird species co-existing with the Semi-nomadic Maasai people.
Day 1: Arrival and Pick up – Transfer to your Hotel in Arusha
The 9 Days Tanzania Safari & Day Hike on Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau will start with a pick up by our Professional Driver guide from Paradise Adventure Vacations who will meet and greet you, he will brief you about your Safari and thereafter transfer you as you enjoy the captivating beauty of the Landscape in Tanzania to your Hotel in Arusha for a relaxed overnight as you await the next day’s activities.

Day 2: Transfer to Tarangire National Park – Evening Game Drive
Day 2 of your Safari will start with a delicious breakfast and thereafter you will start your drive to Tarangire National Park where you will arrive with an enroute game drive to your lodge. You will check in for a mouth-watering lunch and have relaxation. Later, you will head out for an evening game drive until sunset which will give you sights of different mammals including elephants, giraffes, cape buffaloes, wildebeests, waterbucks, dik-dik, impala, fringe eared oryx kudus, hartebeests, lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, gazelles among others. You will then return back to your accommodation for your dinner as well as an overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Serengeti National Park – Evening Game Drive
After your lovely morning breakfast on day 3 of your 9 Days Tanzania Safari & Day Hike on Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau, you will embark on about 4 hours drive to Serengeti National reserve. You will continue towards the fertile Ngorongoro highlands where wheat and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Along the way, you will also pass through the mist-shrouded rain forests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you might be lucky enough to see baboons or even leopards and elephants in the dense undergrowth. Upon arrival, you will check into your accommodation for a finger-licking lunch and have relaxation. Later in the late afternoon, you will descend into the central Seronera area which has a great concentration for wildlife and enjoy your game drive as you search for mammal species.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park – Full day Game drive
Your day 4 of the 9 Days Tanzania Safari & Day Hike on Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau will start with a delicious morning breakfast and thereafter you will proceed for a full day game drive in the land of endless plains. You will drive through the classic savannah dotted with acacia and filled with plenty of wildlife including the Big 5 mammals which are lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants and rhinos. Later you will return for your dinner and an overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater – Afternoon Crater Rim Walk
Day 5 of your 9 Days Tanzania Safari & Day Hike on Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau will begin with a lovely morning breakfast and thereafter you will transfer with an enroute game drive to Ngorongoro Crater. Upon arrival, you will check in for a mouth-watering lunch and then later you will go on a guided walk along the top of the Crater wall. This part of the Crater is very beautiful and densely forested with Tropical trees, plants and creepers. The Crater Rim walk will take you along the picturesque rim offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape and various wildlife species. Later you will return to your lodge for your dinner and an overnight.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive – Drive to Arusha for Overnight
You will wake up early morning on your day 6 of the Safari and have breakfast. You will thereafter descend into the Crater floor which is about 260 sqkm with a depth of over 2000 feet. This 5 hours game drive on the crater floor will show you a lot of wildlife action which has not to be missed therefore keep your Cameras ready. The African elephant, Black rhino, buffalos, Hippos, Cheetahs, Hyenas and Lions are found in plenty. You will later begin a steep ascend to the top exit of the crater and then transfer to Arusha for your delicious lunch and relaxation, you will have your overnight stay in Arusha.

Day 7: Transfer to West Kilimanjaro – Maasai Community Encounter
With views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the endless plains of the African savannah, Kambi ya Tembo is a spectacular tented camp situated on the north face of Kilimanjaro with great views of Amboseli National Park in Kenya. The camp is located in Sinya, a 600 square kilometers wildlife area which offers magnificent views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, and Mt. Longido. It is one of the only places in Africa where you may see large bull elephants more than 50 years old, with enormous tusks. You will visit the Maasai settlements, known as “bomas”, which are scattered around Sinya. The Maasai in Sinya continue to live traditionally, dressed in their colorful blankets and performing many traditional ceremonies. In the evening, you will drive back to Kambi ya Tembo for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 8: Kilimanjaro Shira Plateau Hike (3,400m)
Upon waking up, you will have your breakfast and drive for about 1 ½ hours to the Western Gate Londorossi Gate where you will begin your hike at 2100m. You will pass through the montane forests of the Majestic Kilimanjaro which is home to various bird and mammal species including the Crested Turaco, black and white colobus monkeys, giraffes and elephants among others. Then continue your hike to Shira Plateau a 500,000 years old Volcanic Caldera and a World Heritage Site situated at 3,400m above sea level. Have your delicious lunch at the Plateau as you enjoy the beautiful breathtaking scenery.

Day 9: Transfer back to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight
