Nestled right in the center of the Maasai Country in an isolated corner of Tarangire National Park, is Swala Safari Camp. Situated in complete isolation amongst the huge acacia trees and overlooking the leveled savannah. Sanctuary Swala camp provides a completely unique safari experience and it promises out-standing accommodations with a good number of resident mammals. These include elephants, impala, and waterbucks attracted to its artificial waterhole.
Tarangire National Park is one of the most thrilling and least visited national parks in Tanzania. This pretty landscape packed with ancient baobab trees, a variety of elephants and also a great profusion of birds.
This exclusive Camp has 12 spacious canvas pavilions and each of them looks out onto a popular watering hole, therefore ensuring wildlife sightings from the comfort of your room. Simple yet elegant, these pavilions are smartly furnished and comfortable consisting of comfortable king-sized beds, plush sofas, and ensuite bathrooms having both indoor and outdoor showers.
Sanctuary Swala Camp’s 12 canvas pavilions are unashamedly lavish and skillfully furnished yet still very close to nature so as to allow a thrilling night beneath canvas. All these tents have a large open arrangement with King-sized or even twin beds, a couple of end-of-bed stools, bedside tables and lighting, LED lights overhead, lavish sofas, campaign chairs, a writing desk, two armchairs, an umbrella stand, flush toilet, twin washbasins. Additional amenities include mosquito nets, an electronic safe, fans, yoga mats, and a hairdryer. There’s also a storage unit for clothes and other belongings, and also a selection of complimentary toiletries. Each pavilion is large enough to sleep a maximum of 3 adults, or 2 adults and one child.
The tents as well feature an en-suite bathroom having both the inside and outside showers for an added touch of luxury. Guests can enjoy cocktails or delight in tasty dinners at the comfort of their private veranda as they enjoy watching several animals as they drink at the waterhole. Some of these include lions, elephants, antelopes and leopards.
The Camp’s communal lounge and dining areas are arranged within a classic timber, stone, and thatch lodge that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Both the lounge and dining area flow out onto a deck where visitors can relax and devour delicious meals while marveling at the mesmerizing scenery. Within a short distance from the lodge, there is a fire-pit that is perfect for pre-dinner drinks as you share safari stories with your fellow guests.
Visitors can look out for 4 of the Big 5 mammals which are lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes in addition to several other smaller predators and herbivores like cheetah, hyena, jackal, wild dogs, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes. Visitors can also enjoy night game drives where they can venture out to search for nocturnal species like wild cats, spotted genets, bat-eared foxes, and various owls.
The birdlife around Sanctuary Swala Camp is prolific, and some of the bird species include ostriches, red-and-yellow barbet, tawny eagle, and bare-faced go-away bird among others.
Nature walk is another activity offered at Swala Safari Camp and it is done in the company of an expert guide as well as an armed ranger who will introduce you to the particularly isolated areas of Tarangire National Park. You will spot elephants, zebras, impalas, ostriches, and many others.
